Original 289 Cobra
The Shelby Cobra needs no introduction. The icon of automotive history created when American Carroll Shelby shoe-horned a huge Ford V8 engine into a little British sportscar from AC Cars.
Cobras from the period have many individual mods and unique features, this particular car still used on track has all the look I am after.
289 Cobra Replica Bodyshell
This project started with the opportunity to acquire an early 289 style fibreglass replica bodyshell, it even had years of patina ! No doors though so thats going to be fun, but it did have boot lid and bonnet. An abandoned project barely started, the chassis was not going to be up to the job so was ditched.
Trying the Cobra shell on the TVR chassis
With fairly minimal trimming we soon had the Cobra shell sitting on the TVR Chimaera inner tub and chassis (borrowed from the V8 Coupe project temporarily). Quite a good fit as the wheelbase for both vehicles is 90" (2280mm)
Trial fit of body on the TVR inner tub and chassis
These images show how well the TVR floor pan suited the Cobra. The shell was split in two below the doors for ease of working with the parts.
